of his son, Henry Borlase esq. M.P. for Marlow), to
provide education in reading, writing & arithmetic
for 24 poor boys, & instruction in lace making for 24
poor girls, from the parishes of Great Marlow, Little
Marlow & Medmenham. The school was carried on
under the provisions of his will until the year 1878,
when the Charity Commissioners reorganized it under
a new scheme as a second-grade school, with aa
exhibition of ¿30 a year, & 12 foundation scholar
ships open to boys who have been educated in any
of the elementary schools in Great Marlow, Little
Marlow & Medmenham. In 1884, the school received
frcm the Charity Commissioners an endowment of
.£3,661, derived from the sale of an estate called
“Martins Close;” since that date the premises have
been enlarged at different times by the addition of
class rooms, gymnasium, dining hall & dormitories, &
in 1903 a wing was added at a cost of £1,600, for
instruction in science & art: in 1909 three clas®
rooms were added at a cost of about £x>3°°* & two

gift of the late Mr. Edward Riley (one of the gover
nors) in conjunction with his step-sister, Miss M.
Wilson Mitchell: attached to the school are about 13
acres of playing fields. In 1903 the school wa9 re
organized as a secondary school under the Board of
