A portion of B illin g b ea r P ark,
the p rop erty of Lord B raybrooke, is situated in this
p arish. Binfield M anor is in th is parish, and in 1738
was held by the P itt fam ily, and is now occupied by
L estocq Robert E rskin e esq. J .P . Th e chief m anor
of Binfield was given up to the Crow n in 1548, by
Thom as, 2nd Baron Sandys, of Th e V in e, near B asin gÂ
stoke, and in 1617 was given by Jam es I. to Prince
C harles (afterw ards Charles I .) , for whom it was surÂ
veyed by Norden. The m anor was form erly included
In W indsor Forest, and m any fine specim ens of the old
forest trees still rem ain on the estate, especially some
m agnificent oaks and a cedar of extraordinary grow th.
By the A c t of P arliam en t passed in 1813 for inclosing
W indsor F orest, a spring of w ater, a m ile from the
m anor house,
was reserved to the lord of the manor,
who s till has
the sole rig h t to it. Th e principal lan dÂ
owners are Lord B raybrooke, H enry Edw ard A llan
W ig g e tt esq. S ir R obert W ilm o t bart. L ad y Morshead
and L a d y Brownlow. Th e soil is prin cip ally gravel and
c la y ; subsoil, clay. The ch ief crops are wheat, oats and
barley. The area is 3,471 acres of land and 18 of

B I S H A M (form erly B ustleh am ) is a villag e and
parish, b eau tifu lly situ ated on the bank of the river
Tham es, over w hich is a suspension bridge to Marlow
(B ucks), b u ilt in th e yea r 1836; it is 13 m iles n orth Â
ea st from R eading, 7 east from H enley, 5 north-w est
from M aidenhead and one m ile south from Marlow
station on the G re a t W estern railw ay, in th e Eastern
division of th e county, hundred of B eyn hurst, M aidenÂ
head p etty sessional division, union of Maidenhead,
cou nty cou rt d istrict of H igh W ycom be, rural deanery
of Maidenhead, archdeaconry of B erks and diocese of
Oxford. The church of A ll Saints, w hich stands close
to the river and not far from th e A bbey, is an ancient
structure of chalk and rubble stone, datin g from about
th e 12th century, and consists of chancel, nave of four
bays, aisles, south porch
and an em battled western
tow er of N orm an date, containing 3 b e lls ; i t was
restored in 1849 and 1850, and a north aisle was added
in 1877-8, at a cost of £2,300, defrayed by Lieu t.-G en .
Owen W illiam s J.P . : in th e church are m onum ents
to S ir Philip H oby k t. the la st E nglish leg ate to the
Pope, who died 1558 and S ir Thom as Hoby k t. am basÂ
sador to France, who died 1566, w ith th eir effigies in
alabaster, erected by the widow of the la t t e r : there
is also a stained window w ith arm s of tw elve m em bers
of the Hobye fam ily, placed in the year 1609: there
are 350 sittin g s, all b ein g free, except those in the
north and south chapels. Th e reg ister dates from th e
year 1560. T he livin g is a vicarage, net yearly value
£150, w ith residence, in th e g ift of S ir H enry Jam es
