T h e area of the parish is 2,664 acres of land and
53 of -water; the rateable value of New W indsor is
¿65,19 2 .
The population in 1911 w as: M unicipal Borough of
New W indsor, 12,681, viz. C astle W ard, 3,272; Clewer
W ard, 4,470 and Park W'ard, 4,939; Parish of New
W indsor, 8,211, in clu d in g 209 in W indsor C astle, 496
m ilita ry and 141 other inm ates in the V icto ria Infan try
B arracks and 46 m ilita ry and 104 fam ilies, servants &c.

T h e area of the p arliam en tary borough i s : â Berks,
2,998 ac re s; Bucks, 283 a c re s; total, 3,281 a c re s; the
population in 1911 was 19,840, v i z . : â B erks, 16 ,713;
B ucks, 3,127. The num ber of electors on the p arliaÂ
m entary reg ister in 1914 was 3,174.

the provisions of Section I. of th e â L ocal G overnm ent

Clew er Old parish in the W indsor m unicipal borough,
The area is 123 acres of land and 8 of w a te r; rateable
value. ^ 26,130 ; the population in 1911 was 4,470,
in cluding 299 m ilitary and 21 other inm ates in the
C avalry B arracks.
The castle was form erly deemed extra-parochial, but
the Low er ward is now assessed w ith New W in dsor;
the rem ainder of the castle, bein g in im m ediate occuÂ
pation of the Crown, is not rateable, and is without
the m unicipal lim its. I t is rep uted to be extra-parochial
for ecclesiastical purposes.
D edworth, a ham let of New W indsor, was transferred
to Clew er, under th e provisions of th e â Divided
Parishes A c t,â by Local G overnm ent Board O rder,
8,920, dated Dec. 21, 1878.
D atchet Mead is rendered famous by Shakespeare in
his â M erry W ives of W indsor,â and has long been a
favourite resort of anglers.
