The U n iv ersity sends tw o m e m b e rs to P a rlia m e n t, a
privilege granted b y le tt e r s p a te n t of J a m e s I . in 1604
when the elective r ig h t w as c o n fe rre d on th e d o c to rs and
actual m asters, a m o u n tin g to th e n a b o u t 458, b u t the
number of r e g is te r e d e le c to rs is now a b o u t 7,000. C a n d i­
