and a n ew one added : there are seven stained w in d ow s, som e o f w h ich
are filled w ith ancient glass b ro u g h t from th e ch urch o f the A b b e y
o f St. B e rtin at St. Om er ; th e w est w in d ow is a m em orial to Sir R o b e r t
J oseph P h illim ore bart. d. 19 M a y , 1 8 8 5 : the late L o r d T en n y son ,

seat o f Col. J o h n B a sk erville D .L ., J .P . ; the m an sion, bu ilt in the
reign of Jam es I I . is a fine buildin g o f red b rick w ith an em b a ttled
parapet, and is surrounded b y avenues o f fine t r e e s ; one avenue
in th e rear o f th e m ansion is a m ile in le n g t h ; the p a rk , in w h ich
are k ep t 200 head of deer, is 250 acres in exten t, th ick ly w ood ed and
n oted for its fine cedar and oa k trees. T he C opp ice is th e resid en ce o f
