R eadin g, B radfield u nion , p etty sessional division and cou n tv co u rt dis­
trict of R ea d in g, rural dean ery o f B radfield, arch dea con ry o f B erk s and

in 1855, is a buildin g o f stone in th e D ecora ted style, con sistin g o f ch a n ­
cel, nave, aisles, south porch and a w estern to w e r, w ith p in n acles and
spire, con ta in in g 8 bells and a c lo c k : th ere is an alabaster rered os and
carved oak stalls, and several of the w indow's are stained : th e south aisle
and the base o f the tow er are th e on ly rem ains o f the old b u ildin g : th ere

th at colleg e, and surrogate. T h e rectory house w as co m p le te ly destroyed
by fire m A p r il, 1887 and reb u ilt in 1889. H ere is a C on grega tion a l
ch apel, foun ded in 1797, o f red b rick w ith stone dressin gs, in the M odern
G oth ic style, w ith sittin g s for 300 p e r so n s : in the rear of th e chapel
