G u ild fo rd , is a b u ildin g of Hint and ston e, in the T ran sition style,
betw een the E a rly E n glish and D ecora ted , and consists o f chancel,
nave, w ith n orth aisle, orga n ch a m b er, vestry, south porch and ov er it
a tu rret con ta in in g 3 b e lls : the prin cip al feature o f the in terior is the
triplet o f arch es betw een th e nave and the ch aneel, sup ported on
colum ns o f dark F o re st o f D ean s to n e ; the reredos is o f Caen stone and
E arly E n glish and Italian alabaster and m arble and has a sculptured
grou p in the cen tre rep resen ting the C r u cifix io n : the east w in d ow is
stain ed, and a beau tifu l arch , p a rtia lly filled b y oak screen w ork,
incloses the organ cham ber : a w in d ow , designed b y K em p , is on the
south side o f the ch a n cel, and was presented b y the late H . A . K n o x esq.
in com m em oration of the crow n in g o f K in g E dw ard V I I . : there are 260
sittings.
T h e register dates from the year 1881.

£ 2 7 0 . net £ 2 5 5 , w ith residen ce, in the g ift o f the vica r o f S on nin g, and
held since 1913 by the R ev . F rederick F itzP a trick P en ru ddock M .A . of
St. J o h n s C ollege, C am bridge. H ere is a C on gregational Chapel,
erected in 1834, w ith 120 sittings. T h e area o f W o o d le y and Sandford
lib erty is 3,519 acres o f land and 90 o f w a te r ; rateable value, £ 1 8 ,6 3 2 ;
the population o f the lib e rty in 1911 was 1.034 and o f the ecclesiastical
parish in 1911, 684.
