parishes of Shiplake, Son n in g and Caversham ; the C aversham portion w as con stiÂ
tuted a civil parish June 14, 1894, b y an
order of the Jo in t C om m ittee of the
Oxfordshire, B erks and ' B ucks C o u n ty
Councils, bu t on M arch 1st, 1902, the
civil was re-nam ed B id m ore E n d, and a
portion of 16 acres w as re-tran sferred
Nov. 19 1 1 ; th e v illa g e is 6£ m iles north Â
east from Pangbourne station and 6£
south-west from H enley-on-Tham es te rÂ
minal station, both on th e G rea t W estern
railway, and 5 m iles north from R eading,
in the H enley d ivision of the coun ty,
petty sessional division of H enley, union
of H enley-on-Tham es, co u n ty cou rt d isÂ
trict of Reading, ru ra l dean ery of H enley
and archdeaconry and dioceae of O xford.
The ch urch of S t. John th e B a p tist, b u ilt
in 1852, is an edifice of flint and stone in
th e E a r ly E n g lish style, and consists of
chancel, nave, north porch, v e s try and a
tu rre t con tain in g one b e l l : the w indow s
are stain ed and in clude a m em oria l w in Â
dow presen ted to th e ch urch b y C . M.
W orth in gto n esq. of D ysonâs w ood : there
are 220 sittin g s. T he re g iste r dates from
the y e a r 1854. T h e liv in g is a v icara ge,
net incom e ¿2 4 0 , w ith residence and 11
acres of gleb e, in the g ift of the Bishop
of O xford, and held since 1916 b y th e
Rev. B ertra m H u gh B ird M .A .; an a d d iÂ
tional jfio o a year w as added to the liv in g
