D T T N S D E N a n d E Y E form a liberty
in Oxfordshire, belonging to the parish of
Sonning, in Berkshire, and including
Sonning Eye, Sorining Common and part
of Binfield Heath. Dunsden was formed
into a separate ecclesiastical parish May
26th, 1876, and is 3J miles north-east
from Reading station, and about the same
distance north-west from Twyford junc­
tion, both on the G reat Western railway,
and 5 miles south from Henley, in the
Henley division of the county, hundred
of Binfield, union of Henley, petty ses­
sional division of Henley, county court
district of Reading, rural deanery of Son­
ning, archdeaconry of Berkshire and
diocese of Oxford. A portion of Caversham was transferred to Dunsden Nov.
9th. 1911. Caversham Park, in this dis­
trict, is occupied by Mrs. Florentia Maria
Crawshay esq. D .L ., J .P .; it is a large
and handsome residence, standing in a
park of 300 acres.
The church of All
Saints, built and endowed by the late
Robert Palmer esq. of Holme Park, Son­
ning, in 1842, is a structure of grey brick
in the Early English style, consisting of
chancel, nave, north porch and a western
turret containing 2 bells: the church has
some good stained windows, and affords
220 sittings. The register dates from tne
year 1876. The living is a vicarage, gross
yearly value £390, net ¿3 15 , with resi­
dence, in the gift of the vicar of Sonning,
and held since 1904 by the Rev. Herbert
W igan M.A. of Oriel College, Oxford.
Mrs. Golding Palm er, of 36 Queen’s Gate,
London, is lady of the manor and prin­
cipal landowner.

is chalk, with gravel here and there;
subsoil, clay and gravel. The chief crop’s
are wheat, barley, oats and peas. The
area is 4,022 acres; rateable value,
¿7,3 2 3 ; the population in 1911 was 1,173;
the population in the ecclesiastical parish
in 1911 was 531.
