S P E N C E R S W O O D is an ecclesiastical
parish, form ed o u t o f th e parishes of
Shinfleld, G razeley and Sw allow field by
an Order in C o u n cil, D ecem ber 19th, 1913 ;
it is in th e N ew b u ry division of the
county, R ead in g hundred, cou n ty court
district and p e tty sessional division of
Beading, W okingham union, ru ra l deanery
of Beading, archd eaco nry of Berks 3nd
diocese of O xford. T h e church of St.
Michael and A ll A n gels, opened Septem ber
39th, 1908, is a b u ild in g of b rick with
stone d re ssin g s: an organ was provided
in 1910. T h e liv in g is a v icara ge, in the
gift of the Bishop of O xford, and held
since 1914 b y the R ev . F red erick Tem ple
Lewarne B .A . of S elw yn C o llege, C a m Â
bridge, who w as cu rate in charge from
1908. St. M ichaelâs P a rish H all, a b u ild Â
in g of red brick in the E lizab eth an style,
was erected at the expense of Mrs. H un ter,
and was opened in 1 9 12 ; there is a w orkÂ
ing m enâ s club in connection. T h ere is
a Wesleyan M ethodist chapel a t Three
Mile Cross and a t Spencers W ood a Con Â
gregational chapel, erected in 1837, w ith
sittings for 250 p e rs o n s; attached to the
latter is an in stitu te. T h ree M ile Cross
