Woodley was form ed in to a separate eccleÂ

branch of th e London and S o u th W estern
railway, and a bou t 4 east from R eadin g.
The church of S t. John th e E va n gelist,
built in 1873, a t a cost of £5,000, b y the
late Robert P a lm e r esq. of Holme P ark,
Sonning, from d esign s by H enry W oodyer
esq. cf G u ild ford, is a b u ild in g of flint
and stone in the Tran sition sty le , between
the E arly E n glish and D ecorated, and
consists of chancel, nave, w ith north aisle,
organ cham ber, v e s try , south po rch and
W OODLEY.
