Exhaustive scientific

experiments have

de

monstrated the hygienic advantages of gas as a lighting
medium.

Investigations upon

the bacterial content

of an inhabited room lighted by gas reveal the crema
tion of organisms by the flames, and the value of the
heat produced as an aid to ventilation.

The air in a

gas-lighted room is maintained in a hygienic condition,
owing to the better ventilation and circulation of the
air caused by the air currents set up by the model ate
degree of heat evolved from the combustion of the gas.

At the Medical Congress held in London, 111
August, 1 9 1 3 , Dr. Wainwriglit remarked that “ A great
deal of our eye trouble in modern days was due to the
irritating

effect

from

electric

light.”

Dr.

Brindley

James speaking from an experience of nearly 20 \eais
as Medical Officer of a Training College said,

Since

electricity has been substituted for gas, the sight of the
students has been very much affected.”
