GUESTS OF THE MAYOR, WHO RAISED THE R. E.'S

RoyalEngineers.

Before leaving Reading to continue its
training at Masham, Ripon, the 35th
Divisional Signal Company Royal Engineers
was inspected by Brigadier-General
Hickson, C. B., D. S. O., who congratulated the
men on their progress. On the same day the
company was entertained to tea at "Hillside"
at the invitation of the Mayor, and
Captain R. L. Pearson, on behalf of the
company, presented his Worship with a
silver sugar castor bearing the R. E.'s crest
in token of the members' appreciation of
his kind interest in them. Afterwards at a
concert in the beautiful grounds the Caversham
and ReadingV eterans' Association
Band played a quick-step march "Wantage
Hall," dedicated by Mr. E. Farrar to the
company. On July 16th, 1915, there was a
crowd of friends at the railway station to
say farewell - but in most cases not a last
farewell! - totheR. E.'s, who marched to
the train singing "Tipperary" and other
songs, and showed, at least, no sign of
sadness.

"READING'S OWN" LEAVE FOR THEIR YORKSHIRE STATION.
