BROADCLOTH CHANGED FOR KHAKI.

[photo, portrait] The REV. T. GUY ROGERS, who resigned the living of St. John'€™s, Reading, and went to France as an Army Chaplain.

The war echoes everywhere. No sphere of human activity is deaf to its voice of thunder -€” least of all the churches. A note of humble supplication repeats itself through the services, vacant places in the pews inspire a silent prayer for loved ones and fellow worshippers, and ever-lengthening Rolls of Honour at the entrance name squire and peasant, manufacturer and mechanic, as willing workers in a common cause. And since bloodshed and suffering call for the fullest exercise of Christian principles and pastoral care is it not natural that the war should bring change into the daily lives of many of the clergy and ministers. In €™Berkshire some have been appointed chaplains to war hospitals while still discharging their parochial and pastoral duties. Some have seen in the world conflict a direct invitation to new service and have applied for chaplaincies in H. M. Forces, embarking for the far-off
Dardanelles or the khaki-animated fields of France. And some ministers who have discarded broadcloth for the imperial uniform
are now serving in the R. A. M. C., like the brothers Smith.

same patriotic step.
