Broad Street, Reading, looking westwards, c. 1905. An electric tramcar heads westwards past the statue of George Palmer. On the north side of the street, the pawnbroker's shop of John Rose and Son at Nos. 9 and 10 can be identified, the entrance to the Covered Market and Corn Exchange, the "hats" sign denoting the shop of William Butler at No. 5, and Stevens and Company, coal and coke merchants at No. 3. 1900-1909 : postcard by E.S., with the caption "Broad Street, Reading," and numbered 670.
