Reading University College Officers' Training Corps -€” an Infantry Contingent o f th e Senior Division - replaced th e form er College Troop of th e Berkshire Yeomanry in 1908.
I t is a small con tin gen t, the establish m en t being only tw o platoons, and th e to ta l number of m em bers enrolled from th e foun dation t o May, 1915, bein g ju s t over 300 ; b ut its record is a good one.

servin g as S u b-Lieutenants w ith th e French Medical Service. In addition , 49 w ere servin g in th e ranks of his Majesty's Forces. A n d of form er officers o f th e C on tin gent not accounted fo r
above, Captain R . L . Pearson -€” who com m anded th e con tin g en t from its fou n dation till M arch 2nd, 1915 -€” was com m anding th e 35th Divisional Signal Company R .E . (Reading ); Lieut. S. J . M . Auld was servin g w ith the 4th Royal Berkshire Regiment; and Second Lieut. R . W . Palmer (atta ch ed from th e 3rd East Lancashire Regiment) was servin g w ith th a t regim ent in France and had been mentioned in dispatches and awarded th e Military Cross.
