The historic demonstration of August 4th culminated in a meeting in Friar Street, when a vast congregation joined in a solemn act of worship and recorded 'its inflexible determination to continue to a victorious end the struggle to maintain the ideals of liberty and justice which are the common and sacred cause of the Allies.' Bishop Boyd-Carpenter and Lord Reading gave addresses and the hymn 'O God, our Help ' was sung. The photograph is a credit to the operator, because it was taken at dusk and a long exposure was necessary.
