MAGIC OF MUSIC ON THE MARCH.
Yes magic! Nothing more heartens marching troops than music. Officers tell how men limb-eary, perhaps hungry, have been pulled together by the blast of the bugle and the rhythmic beat of the drum. Besides assisting the powers of endurance, a band has its value as a recruiting agent. It almost draws one into the ranks by its magnetic charm. Our picture shows the band of the 8th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, which was formed a few weeks before the troops left Reading and led the way in route marches.
