THE BERKSHIRE YEOMANRY

In the interval between m obilisation
and departure for abroad tlie 1st B erkshire Yeomanry
was stationed first in
Berkshire and then in Norfolk , where
it was billeted. The regim ent was dis
appointed that its departure was de
layed until the spring, but in the in
terval the m en were in the highest
spirits, charged with ilitary ardour,
and practised hard to emulate the
cavalry heroes of the senior service.
W h ile on the East Coast the troops
forged ties of close friendship with the
inhabitants, and to say that the con
duct o f the form er was excellent is
superfluous.
M ost o f the tim e the
regim ent was at Fakenham , and the
Parish Church there witnessed more
than one matrimonial alliance between
a w a r-goin g soldier and"€œ the girl lie
le ft b eh in d ."
