READING CITIZEN'S DEFENCE FORCE
The accompanying pictures depict a further step in the development of the Reading Citizen's Defence Force, now called A, B, C and
D Companies of the 1st Batt. Berkshire Volunteer Regiment. The members are seen in the fir woods of Burghfield Common at the
conclusion of an arduous field day, in which one platoon fought a rearguard action with a force three times its size, on the principle adopted
in the historic retreat from Mons.
