CHIEF CONSTABLE
IN KHAKI.
Major A .F POULTON , Chief Constable of
Berkshire, has rejoined the Army as Assistant
Administrative Officer under the Army Forage Committee.
In this ca pacity he supervises a large region, takin g in all th e counties
from Norfolk to Cornwall, and schedules information fo r the use of th e A rmy Service
Corps.
MAJOR A.F.POULTON.
Major Poulton was w ith th e colours for 28
years and served in th e Afghan War w ith the
Suffolk Regiment, becom ing Chief Constable
o f Berkshire in 1902. In his absence Colonel
F. C. Ricardo, o f Cookham , a form er High
Sheriff of th e County, is actin g Chief Constable and the Deputy Chief Constable, mr A.J. Hedges, undertakes the administration of the force.

In order to com pile the National Register so fa r as it relates t o Reading a staff of betw een forty and fifty ladies and gentle
men w orked hard fo r m any days under th e direction of th e Town Clerk.
School teachers tfor the most part, they voluntarily and
cheerfully ga ve up th eir leisure time t o perform th e great task, w hich proceeded w ith admirable rapidity.
