THE QUEEN'S (ROYAL WEST SURREY REGT.).

With "Memory of former glory" as its motto this ancient regiment has enhanced its enduring fame by one act of valour after another. At the beginning of the war the Queen's was in the first line and held the front firm. After Ypres the 1st Battalion had only about fifty men left; the 2nd Battalion was reduced to little more than 200 officers and men. But the regiment was if possible richer in pluck and resolution, and Brigadier General S. Lawford issued to the 2nd Battalion a special order extolling its deeds.
