1st Batt. Royal Berkshire Regiment,
The late Capt. ALAN JOHN BOWLES ,Dully House,near
Sittingbourne. -Killed in action .Aged 20.
Pte. H. POUND, 54 Church Road, Acton. Invalided with frostbite.
Pte. R. NEWPORT,Langboro' Road, Wokingham. - Wounded, prisoner of war .
Pt e. WALTER H . COX , 35, Flint Street, Reading . - Wounded .
Pt e. JOHN RAPLEY, Tanner's Farm, Swallowfield . - A shell pitched into his trench buried him for
a considerable time, and severely injured him.
REMNANT OF A FAMOUS COMPANY . - Company - Sergt . - Major W . Brant was decorated
with the Croix de Guerre for bravery and resourcefulness at Loos. His company took a position , but all the officers fell.
Brant rallied the remnant of the company, who held the trench till victory was secured and took out of action a score of men . The recipient of this French honour is the fourth figure from the left, front row in the photograph, which shows women and children whose homes were in the path of the British advance.
Born at Wokingham, before the war he was a police constable at Blackheath .
The late Pte. FREDK. HISCOCK, Headley, Newbury. - Killed in action. Aged 29.
