The late 2 nd Lieut . A . D. POWLEY , King's African Rifles, brother of Mrs . J . Seton Henderson , Reading , and son
of the late Canon Powley, vicar of Purley 21 years . - Killed in action .Aged 35.
Lce.-Corpl. H. J. R. MARTIN , 2nd Batt. East Yorks Regt., Abingdon . - Wounded.
Pt e. J . L . WISE , Royal West Kent Regt ., Bagshot Road, near Bracknell . Frostbitten in feet .
Pt e. F. W . BAILEY , Seaforth Highlanders, late R.F.A., Uffington. - Wounded.
The l ate Major A . W . HAMMANS, Goring , Recruiting Officer for Bletchley district . Aged 70.
He fought in the Burma War of 1892-3, being decorated with the Burma medal and clasp.
Pte. A. E. WICKS , Machine Gun Corps, Worcester Regt., 4, Blake's Cottages,
Reading. - Wounded. A brother is killed and another has the D.C.M.
A POPULAR REGIMENT. - Among many Reading men in the 3 rd Battalion London Scottish, whose first bayonet charge in the war aroused national admiration, are the eight laddies in this picture.
Reading from left to right they are Privates Bogosoff ( London Road ) , Clamp ( Bradfield ) ,
Freeman ( Export Department, Huntley and Palmers Ltd.), Minchin (Bradfield) , Brown ( Export Department, Huntley and Palmers Ltd . ) , Mills ( Botly and Lewis' ) , Corpl . Upton ( Reading Education Committee ) , and Pte. Ballard ( Archer's Broad Street, wounded .
Captain C. H DANIELS , 2nd Batt . Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, late South Street , Reading , was one of the first
members of the O . T . C . of University College. - Wounded .
