WELL-KNOWN LOCAL MEN IN THE COMMISSIONED RANKS.
Second Lieut. H. T. SEWARD, Royal Engineers, Milton Road, Wokingham. -- Promoted from sapper to commission rank.

Second Lieut. VICTOR SMITH, M. C. Armoured Car Service, of " Casa," Elmhurst Road, Reading, was given a commission after five months' service in France with the Red Cross. He was recently awarded the Military Cross.
Major LEONARD PERMAIN, Camberley, received that rank after only a year's service in the Army, and is attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers. -- Suffering from shell shock.
Capt. ERIC SHORT, 358th Co. A.S.C. M.T., of Vernham, Coley Park Road, Reading, has had charge of a workshop
at the front.
Lieut. G. G. FAIRBAIRN, 215, King's Road Reading (son of the pastor at Kings Road Baptist Church) was wounded while serving in the ranks of the London Scottish and was given a commission in the Gloucestershire Hussars and later in the R.F.C. He was wounded for the second time in April, 1917, while flying over the German lines.

Second Lieut. W. C. LIKEMAN, 9th Batt. Royal Berks Regt., late senior master at the Reading Blue Coat School, who received a commission.
Lieut. A. C. H. GIBBS, son of M r. A. Gibbs, Reading Cemetery, gazetted to 647th Rifles, Australian Imp. Forces.
Lieut. LEONARD LUCAS, Welsh Regt., attached R.F.C., Shinfield. -- Wounded.
Mr. R. G. C. PINFIELD, the famous footballer, now Flight Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps.
Lieut. C. E. HUTCHINGS, a master at Reading School, who joined the 8th Batt. Royal Berks Regt., and was transferred to the 26th Divisional Cyclist Company, with whom he is now serving.
