1/4TH BATT. ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGIMENT

Mobilised on the declaration of war, the I /4 th Batt. has worthily upheld the honour of the Royal County.
They were put in the first line of trenches five days after their arrival, and were the first British troops to relieve the French in a portion of the line taken over from our Allies. During the fighting on the Somme the Battalion again distinguished itself.

The late Pte. A. Y. PARKER , 43, Sherwood Street, Reading. -- Killed in action. Aged 24.

The late Sergt. E. HEWITT, London Road, Wokingham. -- Killed in action. Aged 23.

Pte. E. MILES, 283, London Road, Reading. -- Twice wounded.

The late Sgt. FREDK. W. WATSON, 228, King's Road, Reading. -- Killed in action. Aged 21. His father is serving at the age of 54.

The late Sergt. WALTER W. BREWERTON, The Bridge, Abingdon. Died of wounds. Aged 31.

Pte. H. H. CLARE, Holly Villas, Popeswood, Binfield. Slightly wounded.

Pt e. L. EATON, 14, Derby Street, Reading. -- Wounded.


Sergt. W. H. CLEMETSON, 5, Milman Rd., Reading. -- Wounded. [A brother was killed.]

Pte. F. G. HILL, 17, Hatherley Road, Reading. Wounded.

Pte. AUSTIN KEAREY , 63, Gosbrook Road, Caversham. -- Wounded.
