THE MILITARY CROSS
Second Lieut. LEWIN ERNEST PARSONS, 1st Royal Berks Regt., Thames St., Windsor. -- For gallantry when commanding
bombing parties. When bombs ran short owing to a communication trench being blown in and the carriers killed, he returned under heavy fire and reorganised the supply, thus enabling a further advance to be made.
Captain ARTHUR H. NORRIS, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., D.P.H ., R.A.M.C., ,6 Bath Rd., Reading. -- For gallantry and devotion to duty.
Major J. N. ALDWORTH, 1/4th Batt. Royal Berks Regiment, Frilford, Abingdon.
Rev. CYRIL W. 0. JENKYN, Master of Oxford Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers, Chaplain to St. Anne's School, Caversham.
Second Lieut. D. TENNANT COWAN, 2nd Batt. Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, "Gibralfaro", Upper Warren Avenue, Caversham. He led his platoon with great dash. When fired on by about five machine guns, he withdrew a short distance and dug himself in. He then returned, reported to his C.O., and led up another platoon to reinforce his own.
Second Lieut. ARTHUR F. C. HILL, Surrey Yeomanry, who was previously mentioned in dispatches has now been awarded the Military Cross. Lieut. Hill is the second son of T. E. Hill, The Knoll, Caversham, and a grandson of the lat e Arthur Hill, J.P., of Erleigh Court, Reading.
The late Coy.-Sergt.-Major THOMAS PERKINS, 1/4t h Royal Berks Regt., 119, Waverley Road, Reading. -- Killed in action. Aged 33.
Capt. C. F. WELLS, Lancs. Fusiliers, third son of Mr. A. Wells, Sinodun, Wallingford. -- Wounded (3rd time). -- For gallantry in action.
Lieut. R. GATEHOUSE, R.F.A., Church Stretton, son-in-law of Captain Norton Clowes, R.A.M.C., Aubrey House, Reading.
Second Lieut. (late Sergt.-Major) W. C. HANNEY, 1st Royal Berks Regt., 41, Connaught Road, Reading. -- For conspicuous gallantry when occupying and consolidating a new crater. It was largely due to his determination and example that the hostile bomb
attacks were repulsed. He has frequently done fine patrol work.
