Spr. SLADE, R. E., of the "Dreadnought," Thames Side, Reading, while in a V.A.D. Hospital at Kettering learned of his award.

Lce.-Corpl. CHARLES ROWLAND, 8th Batt. Royal Berks Regt. - With comrades he found that 30 or 40 Ger­mans were cutting barbed wire entanglements, and repulsed t he r aiders, 25 of whom were killed.

Lce.-Cpl. H. J. SIMMONS, R.A.M.C. , 20, King's Road, Caversham.

The late 2nd Lieut. A. W. BEASLEY, 1/4t h Royal Berks Regt., Reading . - Killed in action. Promoted from the ranks.

CpI. Bandsman SIDNEY C. SMITH, 1/4th Royal Berks Regt., 51, Pell Street, Reading.

Corpl. A. VINCE, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, late of Englefield. - Wounded.

Pte. JOHN AUSTIN, Wiltshire Regt . , Fencewood Cottage, Cold Ash, near Newbury. - For gallantry and courage when carrying messages and obtaining information as to the situation for his Company Commander under heavy fire, on the 7th. 8th and 9th July, 1916. The whole area was waterlogged, but
he appeared indefatigable.
