PRESENTATION OF MEDALS AT CHRIST CHURCH, OXFORD.
FOUR ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGIMENT HEROES HONOURED.
On Wednesday, February 13 th, 1918, a m ovin g military
ceremony to o k place in th e Pockwater Quadrangle o f Christ
Church, Oxford , when medals wore presented t o 21 heroic
soldiers or th eir n e x t-o f-k in
by Lieut.-General Sir H . C. Sclater, G .C .B .,
Commander-in-Chief, Southern Command.
Major G. G. Adeley, Royal Irish Rifles and R .F .C ., w as in
ch arge o f th e parade.The troop s, who form ed up in hollow
square, com prised Squadron N o. 2 School o f Military Aeronautics, R .F .C ., th e
6 th O.C.B., Oxfordshire Volunteer Regiment .
Among the recipients of medals were the following N.C.O.s of the Royal Berkshire Regiment .
C .Q .M .S . J . REDFORD . A t Hullu ch , on October 18th,
1915, fo r g a lla n try and d ev otion t o du ty.
Sergt. L . G. BAYLIS . A t Ronnsoy , on April 5th, 1917,
f o r ra llyin g h is pla toon and leadin g them on.
A t th e con clusion o f th e presen tation G eneral Sclater
shook each recipient b y th e hand and spoke a few w ords of
con gra tu la tion t o him.
