ST GILES' WAR SHRINE
THE CONSECRATION BY THE BISHOP OF OXFORD

A strange circumstance attended the service of dedication of the St Giles' War Shrine by the Bishop of Oxford. Christmas morning dawned dull but as the Bishop was dedicating the shrine, the sun shone clear and bright illuminating the Holy Figure in a manner that created a deep impression on every spectator.

Mrs BENYON Dame Grand Cross G.B.E.
On New Year's Day 1918 the honour of Dame Grand Cross was conferred by the King on Mrs Benyon, president of the Berkshire branch of the British Red Cross Society, commandant of Englefield House Hospital. Among Mrs Benyon's other activities are her presidency of the Reading Care and Comforts Committee, chairmanship of the County Nursing Association, presidency of the Ladies' Linen League, Royal Berkshire Hospital, vie-presidency of the League of Mercy and presidency of the County of Berks Girl Guides.
