Peace Celebrations in Reading - continued.

A large detachment of troops from the Barracks attended, under Lieut. Burton. Amongst the officers present were Colonel F. W. Foley, D.S.O., Colonel Walsh, Colonel Isaac, D.S.O., M.C., Major Scott Turner, Major M. L. Porter (secretary Berks Territorial Association), Major Peyton, R.A.M.C., Captain Boshell, D.S.O., M.C., Captain and Adjutant R. D. H. Norman, Captain Quick, M.C., Lieut. Ellis, Lieut. Hilliard, R.S.M. Trinder, officers and Volunteers, etc.
Others in the church were the Mayoress, Lady Berkeley, Mrs. F. A. Sarjeant, Mrs. and Miss Quick, Mrs. Hilliard, etc.
The hymns were led by the band of the 2nd Batt. Royal Berks Regiment, under Mr. Weaver. Mr. A. C. P. Embling presided at the organ.
The seating arrangements were carried out by Colonel W. J. Maurice and Mr. E. O. Farrer (churchwardens), Messrs. Cardwell, Moffatt, Sewrey, Packer, Hedges and Nailor (sidesmen), and Mr. Hounsell.
The service was the special form No. 3 in the official sheet, and was most impressively read by the Rural Dean of Reading (the Rev. Canon Newhouse). The hymns were "All people that on earth do dwell", "Now thank we all our God", and "O God, our help". The special psalms were ciii. and c., and the lesson, Isaiah lxi., was read by the Archdeacon of Berkshire. Special prayers were said that peace may be true and lasting, for union and concord with the nations, for the League of Nations, for the Church, for rulers and those in authority, for the British Empire, for all who have suffered through the war, and those who have fallen in the service of their country were commended to the mercy of God.
The service concluded with the National Anthem.
Presentation of Medals.
Afterwards the troops were lined up, and in the presence of the Mayor, Colonel Wilson, M.P., and the rest of the official procession, Colonel F. W. Foley, who was accompanied by Colonel Isaac and Captain Quick, presented the Mons Star to the following: - R.S.M. Vokins, R.Q.M.S. Booker, Col.-Sergt. (O.R.S.) Gibson, Sergt. S. Smith and Pte. E. Gregory. Colonel Foley warmly congratulated each recipient.
