BERKSHIRE VOLUNTEERS

Unification of the Two Battalions

The parade ground at the Reading Barracks was the scene of a gathering of volunteers on Sunday February 10th 1918 .It was the occasion of the first parade of the 1st Battalion since the 2nd Battalion had been embodied in it. The troops were inspected by Col. Serocold, V.D. The County Commandant.
There were 28 officers 516 of other ranks, the Reading Fife and Bugle Band, the Hungerford Brass Band and the Newbury Bugle Band. Col Kellie was in charge of the Battalion, while Capt. H.F. Kingham was in command of No1 Company, Capt. Millins No 2, Lieut. Voules No 3, and Major Arding No 4.
Also present Capt. Metcalf, County Adjutant and Capt. M.L. Porter, secretary T.F A.
A Company would be Reading by itself, B Newbury by itself, C Maidenhead, Windsor and Wokingham, D North Berks Wallingford, Wantage and Abingdon.
