Berkshire Boys on H.M.S. "Windsor".
[photo, group, exterior] For some time these Berkshire boys on H.M.S. Windsor were on duty in the Baltic.
Top row: H. A. Wood, telegraphist (Reading); L. Welford, seaman torpedoman (Reading); J. E. Deacon, leading seaman (Newbury); J. Freemantle, A.B. (Bracknell).
Bottom row: A. Harper, A.B. (Newbury); J. Whitburn, A.B. (Reading); "Sam" (ship's mascot); J. Manning, A.B. (Hungerford).
[photo, portrait] Dvr. G. J. MASON, Canadian Contingent, son of Mrs. Mason, Farley Hill, Swallowfield, who was badly gassed and wounded in 1917.
[photo, portrait] The late Pte. H. AUSTIN, Oxford and Bucks L.I., who was killed in action, was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Mason.
[photo, group, exterior] SERGEANTS OF THE 2/4th ROYAL BERKS REGT. - This interesting group is composed of Sergeants of the 2/4th Royal Berks Regt., and the photograph was taken a few days before the battalion was broken up.
[photo, group, exterior] ALL THAT WAS LEFT OF THEM. - Twelve original members of the late 2/4th Batt. Royal Berks Regt., who went to France in May, 1916, and have volunteered for the Army of Occupation, and are now serving in Egypt, attached to the Gloucester Regt. This photo was taken a few days before the battalion was broken up. Names (reading from left to right).
